Mrs. Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Couch Moas

Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann (Couch) Moas went to be with her Lord and savior on July 21, 2026. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law. She was born on January 1st, 1939 in Silverton, Colorado. She grew up in Durango Colorado, fishing with her father and swimming in the beautiful mountain lakes. After graduating high school in 1956, she attended nursing school in Phoenix AZ. It was there where she met Doug, the love of her life. Doug and Betsy were married in November 1957 in Las Vegas Nevada after a two-week courtship. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage. Betsy became a proud and devoted Air Force wife and mother, raising 3 daughters and living in many places in the US and Japan. After many moves and her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Colorado Springs, living there for 40 years. With the children married and out of the house, Betsy went back to school and completed her LPN two-year associates nursing degree with honors. She worked at Terrace Gardens Nursing Home for over 15 years. In retirement, Betsy took many road trips with her husband, visiting family and their favorite national parks. She spent time with her children and grandchildren and was a passionate bridge player. In December of 2020, Betsy moved to Keowee Square Assisted Living in Seneca, South Carolina to be closer to her daughter Becky and her husband Dave. Over the past 6 years, she enjoyed many holidays with her family, seeing all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren who came to visit at the lake. Over her life, Betsy most enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, trips to the mountains and trout fishing. She was a skilled card player of bridge and cribbage (beating Becky 4 games in a row just before she passed), and an avid reader. She always had a book in her hand or close by, saying: “if you have a book to read you will never be lonely.” She was also excellent at needle point and crocheting, displaying her work in many framed pictures which hung at her home, and making blankets for her grandchildren. Her goal was to dance at a cowboy bar before she passed, and we hope there is one in heaven with Doug there in a cowboy hat. Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, CMSgt (retired) Douglas Moas and her daughters, Kim Dalley and Renee Lewis. She is survived by her daughter, Becky (Dave) Rutkiewic; her grandchildren, Tiffaney Lewis, Stephanie (Chad) Pfeif; Kasey (Casey) Kowchuck, Brooke (Luke) Lewis, and great grandchildren: Luke, Jenni, Harper, Taylor, Dawson, Mason, Caroline, Delano and Wilhelmina. Betsy will be interned with her husband at the National Cemetery in Colorado Springs. A memorial service will be held in Colorado Springs at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oconee County Friends of the Library.
