Mr. Harvey Ray Ensley

Harvey Ray Ensley of Walhalla, SC passed away at Oconee Hospital on Monday, December 27, 2021. Ray was born in Bryson City, NC and was the fourth and youngest son of the late Verlin Alfred and Rosa Bell Ball Ensley. He was married to Linda Cable Ensley, Lisa's mother, and later married to Donna Buchanan Ensley. In Ray's younger days, he earned a black belt in karate and enjoyed playing his guitar. He held many jobs throughout his life - some of which were pipe fitting, serving as a sheriff's deputy and working on sewing machines. (He even did some repair stitching on Bailey's dress for her 8th grade dance.) Ray also was a car salesman at Mountain Ford in NC and continued to buy and sell used vehicles throughout his life. He was happiest and most proud of his time when finding, fixing up and selling real estate. Ray was a perfectionist and was very detailed oriented. His ability to organize and keep a neat house was in his DNA, passed down from his mother, Rosa Bell. (That skipped a generation with Lisa; however, Sebastian inherited the "organization and neatness" trait from his Papaw.). Ray had a special God given ability to restore anything - guns, knives, tractors, vehicles, boats, bicycles and furniture. Once he started a project, it was perfection upon completion. Ray befriended and helped anyone and everyone that crossed his path. He believed in making the world a better place right where you are, wherever that might be. He was a loving father to Lisa, caring Papaw to Sebastian and Bailey and best friend to Frank. Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Zeke Seigler and grandchildren, Sebastian & Bailey Seigler of Walhalla; best friend and honorary father, Frank Cantrell of Walhalla; brother, V.L. Ensley of Bryson City, NC; paternal uncle, C.L. Ensley and several maternal aunts and uncles. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest Donald Ensley & Roger Arnold Ensley, and his granddaughter, Zoe Dannon Seigler. In lieu of flowers, Ray's family is sure that Ray would want you to take in a stray cat, dog, bird or any animal to feed and love, as he did to all creatures, great and small, or make a donation in his memory to a nonprofit that cares for animals.
