Mr. James "Jim" Morris

James “Jim” Morris was born in Rochester, New York, March 22, 1936, to Edward and Anna Morris and lived in nearby Greece with his younger brother Bill, who preceded him in death in 2023. Jim was a graduate of Aquinas High School in Rochester and had a long and successful career at Xerox Corporation, followed by work with Karpus Investment Management. He married his wife Zoe in 1984, and after many years in the Rochester area, they moved to Keowee Key in Salem, South Carolina, in 2009, where he resided until his passing December 21, 2025. Jim was father to twin sons Brian (Julie) of Skokie, IL, and Keith (Laura), of Mt. Prospect, IL; daughter Laurie (John) Pinter, South Bend, IN, who were children born to his first wife Betty Morris, who died in 2014; and stepdaughters Carla DeCesare (Craig Schwarze) of Annapolis, MD; and Lisa (Patrick) Werbeck, Cleveland Heights, OH. He was grandfather to seven: Jenny (Nick) Campbell and Colleen Morris, Matthew (Kara) Pinter, Danny Pinter, and Erin (Liam) Hunsberger, Samantha Werbeck and Cooper Schwarze, and great-grandfather to Delaney Pinter and Tyler Campbell and baby Hunsberger, expected in summer, 2026. Few things pleased him more than being around his children, grandchildren and their many friends who adored “Moose”, a nickname given to Jim by lifelong best friend Les Carr. His kids remember many summer camping trips with close family friends, and how their own friends in college and beyond came to love “Moose.” These early trips sparked a future love of travel that took him all over the US, Europe and on many cruises. Jim lived a strong life of Catholic faith, and he “walked the walk” when it came to helping others. He was known for service to the communities where he lived, including being a volunteer firefighter for the Greece, New York, department for many years. After moving to Keowee Key, Jim served as a volunteer leader with the Keowee Cares medical loan closet. Jim was a sports lover, and included Notre Dame, the Green Bay Packers and the Indianapolis Colts among his favorites. His sports loving gene was definitely passed on to his kids and grandkids. He also took up golf slightly more seriously after retiring, where his game improved from being a shanker to a duffer. Jim loved and embraced his Irish ancestry, and had the chance to visit Ireland three times, where he met and made close connections with family in Ballydehob, County Cork, where the family originated. With each trip, he brought more of Ireland home, including creation of his own version of an Irish pub at home in South Carolina. Though he never sailed to the “Erin Isle,” he loved the open waters of Lake Ontario, Lake Keowee, and the oceans. Most of all, Jim embodied the true spirit of the Irish by making people smile and laugh throughout his entire life. One of his favorite ways of doing this was pulling elaborate pranks on his many friends and family members over the years. Later in life, Jim soaked in the sun from the deck of his home and enjoyed visits from family and friends. His worrying days have ended, and his family and friends will rejoice in lasting memories of a lifetime highlighted by love, laughter, and malarkey. Jim will be long remembered and missed by all.
