Mrs. Beverly Cecilia Murphy

November 19, 1932 - April 6, 2022

Beverly Cecilia Murphy, 90, passed away on April 6, 2022, in Seneca, South Carolina. She was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, on November 19, 1932, to Alfred and Rosalind Spexarth. Beverly grew up in Fort Madison until her educational pursuits brought her to the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where she became a Registered Nurse. Her first position as a Courier Nurse on the Santa Fe Railroad gave her the first glimpse of Southern California, which was to be her home for over 60 years. Beverly married George Thomas Murphy in Fort Madison, Iowa, on April 16, 1955. These two Iowa natives immediately set off on a 53-year adventure that took their married lives to Baltimore, MD, New York, NY, and eventually Southern California. While in New York City with four young children (Susan, Theresa, Kevin & Steve), Beverly convinced George it was time to leave their two-bedroom Manhattan apartment and head west. In 1960, they moved to Anaheim, CA, where they lived for five years and expanded their family with two additional sons (George II & Brian). In 1965, Beverly and George moved to Corona, CA, where the last two of the eight children (Joseph & Kathy) were welcomed. In 1976, the Murphy family settled in Westlake Village, CA, and Beverly returned to nursing. In retirement, they eventually moved to La Quinta, CA, where she enjoyed the California desert’s sun, heat, and lifestyle. Beverly’s final years were in Seneca, South Carolina, supported by her daughter Theresa and her son-in-law Dennis. Beverly’s life was always full of activities revolving around her children and grandchildren, traveling with George, playing bridge, volunteering at her Catholic Church and hospital, watching golf, and enjoying great friends. Beverly’s children will remember a memorable quote: “nothing good happens after midnight.” Beverly is survived by her eight children; Susan Murphy of Laguna Nigel, CA; Theresa (Dennis) Leaf of Seneca, SC; Kevin (Barbara) Murphy of Salt Lake City, UT; Steven (Rosemary) Murphy of Greeneville, TN; George (Shannon) Murphy II of San Marcos, CA; Brian (Melonie) Murphy of Clinton WA; Joseph (Terri) Murphy of Sarasota FL; and Kathy (Ken) Loncharich of Yucaipa CA; her sister Lindie Suter of Silvis IL; and her ten grandchildren; Rev. Conrad Murphy, Atlee Castillo Murphy, Grant Murphy, Shaun Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Blake Murphy, Brittani Murphy, Kaelyn Loncharich, Eilish Murphy, and Murphy Loncharich. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Murphy, and her parents, Alfred and Rosalind Spexarth. A Mass of Christan Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca, South Carolina, on Monday, April 25, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Friends and family will be greeted at 4:00 PM at the Lighthouse Restaurant (1290 State Road S-37-15, Seneca). The interment will be arranged at a later date in Riverside, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
