Mr. Michael Larry Sanford

Beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and friend Michael Larry Sanford went to be with the lord on January 6th. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years Ellen Adkins Sanford, two daughters Suzanne Sanford Phillips (Tony) Walhalla, South Carolina, Meridith Sanford Barnes (Steven) Charlotte, North Carolina, three grandsons Cooper Phillips, Collin Phillips, and Rhett Barnes. Mike is also survived by four brothers, Dan Sanford (Melissa) Thomasville, Georgia, David Sanford Boulder, Colorado, Bruce Sanford (Gabrielle) Markeesville, California, Joe Sanford (Pam) of Gainesville, Florida, and eight nieces and nephews. Mike was born in Quantico, Virginia in 1945 the son of Janice Alice Sanford and Wayne Frederick Sanford. Mike’s Marine Corp family lived in many areas around the US and the world. Leut. Col . Sanford served with his family in Taiwan, London, and India. Mike graduated from George Mason High School in Falls Church, Virginia. He began his college career at Virginia Military Institute, Lexington Virginia. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, and Furman University with a Master of Business Administration. Mike’s career as an engineer and corporate executive began at Torrington in Clinton, SC. He was Vice President of Manufacturing Sterling Plumbing (division of Kohler) in Morgantown, WV and Schamburg, IL., and Vice President of Manufacturing for Kraftmaid Cabinets in Middlefield, Ohio. Following his career as a corporate executive he and his wife moved back to South Carolina. Mike was the owner of PMI2 and it was his passion until he retired in 2020. When Mike wasn’t working you could find him on the ball field watching his grandson’s play. Mike valued education, integrity, character and was always looking for ways to give back to his community. His family will be setting up the Mike Sanford Memorial Scholarship to help a local college bound senior continue their education. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Mike’s honor to the Mike Sanford Memorial Scholarship Fund, The American Heart Association or The American Parkinson Disease Association.
